I woke up around 2:45am last night and couldn’t fall back asleep, so I did what I usually do to combat insomnia: I went online. I was astonished when I checked Twitter and saw several tweets from Perez Hilton on how he was just attacked by Will.I.Am’s manager in Toronto and needed the cops to come to his hotel to rectify the situation. Apparently several times that night, Fergie/Will.I.Am approached Perez and asked him why he had a problem with them and why he kept badmouthing them on his blog. Perez stood his ground and explained that he does this with every celebrity, and that he always promotes the truth and never holds back on expressing his opinion. Eventually he got so fed up with the harassment last night that he basically outed Will.I.Am and called him a certain name to his face. Shortly after, Perez was decked in the face by the Black Eyed Peas’ manager outside the club and then followed to his hotel, at which point he sent out those *tweets for help*.
I completely agree with Perez in that violence is never justified, and that Will.I.Am/his manager were in the wrong. I also respect that he did not back down or submit to these ridiculous people as they continued to bully him. However!… I DO think that it is justifiable for anyone who Perez attacks to attack right back in the same manner: with words. I think that this is a part of his job, and it’s to be expected that some celebrities will not take well to his criticism and will retaliate in some way. This retaliation, however, should NOT include any form of physical violence. That is taking it to a whole other level, and in a sense it’s like cheating the game. Perez is all about spreading viable information about celebrities, people who have willingly put their lives in the spotlight and thus have submitted themselves to ridicule and criticism. He plays the game with words, not violence. Celebrities who want to play too can fight right back with their own words.
(On a side note though, it probably wasn’t the best idea for Perez to call Will.I.Am a f-g right to his face, even if he was provoked.)
